Children of God,
Do you know that we are on the 40th week for those who are reading the bible in a year. That went by pretty fast. We still have a lot of reading to do. The book of the prophet Jeremiah is a long one. We still have to get through Job. Psalm 119 is very long. It will be interesting on how it will play out for the next 12 weeks. Hang in there.
For those who are adding a minute of silence to your prayer life, we are now at 5 minutes. How did 4 minutes go? It was a turning point for me. It turned into I want to instead of having to. I feel if I ask you to do it, I should do it also. Now, I am looking forward to this time. I am sort of excited to see and hear what 5 minutes will bring.
Next week is Pentecost. It is a time where Christians celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. We actually have a baptism on Sunday. What a perfect time to do a baptism. It is also a time where the church will be decked out in red. We hope you will join us wearing red.
Pentecost is also the longest season of our liturgical year. We have been in the season of Easter. There is something like 7 weeks of Easter. The word “of” is significant. It means we are still within that time period. Advent, Lent and Christmas are the same. We stay within those seasons; therefore, it is the season of Lent, etc.
The time between Easter and Pentecost is 50 days. However, after Pentecost next weekend, we will begin our count of weekends after Pentecost. The word “after” means we are counting the weekends past that significant day. I think we have 23 weekends after Pentecost, by far our longest season.
Had a chance to go see a Pistol Shrimp game on Saturday. It was really chilly when the sun went down. Saw many people I knew. The Pistol Shrimps are clearly our team. There were so many people there attending the game. Our two players are pitchers. Neither of them played in last night’s game. I’m not sure if I know the rules for pitchers. They can only throw a certain number of pitches per week (or something like that). All I know is you need to have a lot of pitchers on your team because of the restrictions placed on them.
My grandsons were over at the house a couple of weekends ago. Nolan, who is 4 years old, asked me what I was doing on the computer. I was in the process of writing my letter for the week. I told him that I was writing a letter to my congregation. He looked at me in deep thought and then said, “K, K is a good letter.” I have to agree. So, I am offering the letter K in closing.
Crossed mark and spirit sealed,
Pastor Tom
